an excellent value. I didn't want to get non-stick because I don't have a dishwasher, and I'm pretty rough on my dishes when I wash them by hand. that being said, these pots and pans are solid. for anyone who isn't a professional chef, these will do just fine for most cooking purposes. I use them everyday and they have performed beautifully so far. as the manufacturer says, don't use excessively high heat. short of that, they'll take anything you throw at them.

"Stainless steel - the best of the best cookware" 2010-02-20
By D. MacInnis (Nashville, TN)
Stainless steel is the way to go for anyone that cooks a lot or a little. It beats everything from teflon to aluminum for ease of cooking and uniform heating. I can't believe I hadn't tried this sooner. Also, for those who are interested in less chemicals in your cooked foods, this is the only way to go - nothing gets transferred from the cooking surface into your cooked foods. Teflon is for those in our society who don't know any better (it's a manmade substance created from toxic chemicals and transfers into the food during cooking) and aluminum in your diet causes alzheimers. If there is a downside, cleanup would be it. You can put this cookware through the dishwasher but I've been much more satisfied with the cleanup if hand washed. To keep the cooking surface of the pot or pan bright and clean, I use around one tablespoon of baking soda, one small squirt of liquid dish soap, and a little warm water. Using a soft sponge just mix it up in the bottom, rub it around for a moment and the surface is back to perfect. It's no exact measurements, just a little of all. If it sounds like too much trouble, my opinion is the exchange for the excellence in cookware is worth it. Also, if you have a ceramic cook-top surface, this is the way to go as the bottoms of the cookware are machined surfaces and completely flat, as well as stainless steel is number one recommended by the manufacturer of our stove.

"For the money, these are the best" 2010-02-16
By Laura O (Minneapolis, MN)
I was looking for some sturdy, good quality stainless pots and pans, but I couldn't afford the all-clads. I did a lot of research, and I came across this set. I even saw some of the pots on America's Test Kitchen saying that they were their top cheap choice for pots.

I knew that some people complained about discoloration when cooking, well, I found out that most stainless will discolor with normal use. I have indeed had my pots discolor if I do not clean them properly (chore-boy) or if I have cooked something for a really long time in them. In my experience, I learned that if there is anything stuck to the pans, boil water in them and it will take off just about anything. Also, if they do discolor, that will usually go away after I use them again.

As far as the whole eggs stick thing, yes they will. You have to lower your stove temp considerably to cook delicate things as the aluminum core really heats up well. Also, learn how to cook in stainless. That means look it up on the net etc until you are used to them. It takes some time and some burnt food in the meantime until you get the hang of it, especially coming from non-stick. Also, butter isn't the best for keeping food from sticking. Smart balance or pam works the best.

Really, I have been able to cook some great things that I couldn't cook easily with my old set. First of all, these can go into the oven and the dishwasher, two benefits over my old set. Also, I get a much better browning on meats and other foods with this set.

Overall, I really like this set a lot. I would eventually like all-clad, but for less than the cost of a single pan, I got the whole set of Cuisinart. I think it worked out well.

 "Perfect" 2010-02-15
By L. Biggs (IL)
This pot set is beautiful, well-crafted, and functional. I have wanted to switch over to stainless steal and/or aluminum because of the research that has shown teflon cookware leaches dangerous chemicals into food (don't buy non-stick cookware!--see the Environmental Protection Agency's official statement on Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA) and Fluorinated Telomers that are found in non-stick cookware and products at [...]).

I was leery about how much cleaning would be involved in changing from non-stick cookware, but I was extremely surprised and pleased. I cooked rice in one of the pots, which typically leaves tough residue. It took no more time to clean these pots. I made breakfast in one of the skillet and again, clean-up was a breeze. I don't have a dishwasher, so I can't speak about that, but they are dishwasher-safe.

I use wooden spoons and spatulas, but the product information states that minor scratches from using stainless-steal utensils won't harm the integrity of the product.

In all, I highly recommend these pots and pans. They have some great features (great lid-vacuum seal, the ability to go in the oven up to 500F, and FAST heating), they are easy to clean, and they look so wonderful hanging in my kitchen's pot rack!

Highly recommend.

 "Just what I needed!" 2010-02-01
By ibmama (Imperial Beach, CA)
Wanted a pan to cook my mother's German Pancakes, and this fits the bill since my former pan had surface damage and food sticking. I learned something from the instructions I had not known: ie, not to use oil sprays on the surface. This griddle fairly heavy (not as much as iron skillet), heats well and evenly. Have since used for other purposes, too. Satisfied.

+ Nice pan, have used it a few times and it feels like good quality. Perfect to make thin french pancakes "crepes". On the slightly -side I find it a bit big (but I should have checked the measurements before!). Bought it for 39.95$ and it feels like very good value, seen similar pans for 80$ at the hardware store.

"Great for all kinds of pancakes" 2009-08-03
By Cookworm (WV, USA)
I've been using this griddle for almost three months now and am very happy with it. My only regret is using nonstick spray on it once- there is some residue left on the edge which won't come off. Now I just brush it with oil using a silicone brush and make pancakes, crepes, dosas and poodas (Indian savory pancakes and crepes).

After making the first crepe with oil, I can usually make all the rest without any oil whatsoever, as long as I clean the pan with a wet paper towel before spreading the batter. The pan feels heavy in a nice way and looks beautiful hanging from the utensil rack. It is easy to clean using a damp sponge and a little soap. Things to remember to keep your griddle looking good and lasting long would be:

1. Do NOT use nonstick spray on your griddle.

2. Do not leave your griddle on the heat too long without any food on it.

3. Do not use too hot water or corrosive utensils/scrubs on it.

By Allan Liska (Leesburg, VA USA)
I know this is designed for camping, but I primarily use it for everyday steaming. I've tried other steamers and none of them do a better job than this...it steams evenly and food tastes great.

Two complaints:

1. It does not hold a lot of food. If you are steaming for one or two its great any more than that and you are out of luck.

2. The handles get very hot (duh, they're metal). Make sure you use a glove when pulling the steamer off the stove/fire.

By tess f (Woodstock, Illinois)
We have tried many different non-stick brands of cookware over the years, but the Emerilware hard anodized products are our favorites. They cook evenly and clean up is a breeze. Make sure you don't spray non-stick spray to the pan, as it will build up on the pan and damage it. Best to heat a teaspoon of olive oil in the pan if you feel you have to have something.

"Went bad long before other brand pots" 2008-08-24
By ChicagoLarry
This pan looks and feels beautiful when new, but its surface went bad long before other brands of similar non-stick surfaces that I own. I paid a lot for it, thinking it would be better than others, not worse. Incredibly, it's to the point where I can't even float an egg in oil in it and cook it without it sticking like it's welded to the pan. How does this happen? (I've only used plastic spatulas on it.) I've had it up to here with this designer-name piece of cookware, and a few minutes ago I finally just tossed it in the trash and came on here to report this poor performance. Your mileage may vary, but that was my experience.

I've only been using this set for 3 weeks but really like it so far. My husband is hard on pans so I wanted something sturdy, which these are. By putting out ONLY the plastic utensils allowable beside the stove in a container, I've avoided any metal-on-nonstick accidents, and do place potholders between pans for storage. Otherwise, these require little in the way of special care, cook very evenly and very well. The handles are oven safe to 400 degrees, which makes a 2 step braise a breeze. One of the pans is stained on the outside where I drizzled when draining fat, and I might have purchased the colored set if I'd known this, but all in all, so far so good!

"these are getting returned today" 2009-10-03
By happy camper
i registered for these after reading reviews (everywhere but amazon or i would have thought twice) and seeing them at bed bath and beyond. i liked that they were not too heavy, nonstick, hard anodized and i thought the calphalon name was a good one. i got the set and 3 pieces had already been slightly damaged due to the packaging rubbing too hard against the non stick surface. i didn't think it looked too bad though and decided to keep them. storage was a whole other problem. i don't have a pot rack and used to keep my old set nested inside each other in the drawer under my stove. since the finish will get scratched if they rub against each other i had to completely reorganize my cabinets so i could find space for all of the pieces. i ended up nesting them anyway but have to keep an old dish towel between each piece so nothing touches. about a week after getting them i made pasta in one of the pots. i added some basil, oil, red pepper flakes and garlic salt and stirred it (with a wooden spoon) around until i heard and felt it scratch. i dumped out the pasta and there was a 3 inch scratch from the garlic salt i guess. so that did it for me. i know you are supposed to be careful with the nonstick finish and i am. i have all silicone, nylon or wooden utensils. i clean them properly. but it is too much of a hassle now worrying the food will scratch it too. i am returning this set today and buying a stainless steel set.

 "What Was I Thinking!" 2009-02-19
By bellnbanjo (pittsburgh)
The main purpose of non-stick cookware is easy cleaning. That purpose is totally defeated in this cookware because the nonstick interior is interrupted by the aluminumin rivets with which the handles are attached - food sticks to them, and around them. I am soooo sorry I bought this!! I was replacing 20-year old T-Fal that was simply worn out. I should have stuck with T-Fal (bad pun intended).

"Either save your money and buy a cheaper set or spend more and get something better" 2008-12-23
By M. Forrester
I was given this set a year and a half ago and so far have had to send back three pieces because of the nonstick finish. I will say I like cooking with the anodized - it heats faster and retains heat well so it is easier to cook with. But the nonstick finish they put on this cookware is terrible. It flakes off and scratches easily. I baby them, follow all directions, etc. only use silicone or wood utensils. In my opinion the surface should not scratch if you are using an approved utensil. Calphalon has been good about honoring their warranty and have replaced everything I sent back so far but I am getting tired of having to keep sending things back. As money permits I am gradually replacing mine with Le Creuset. I don't know if the higher end Calphalon is better, but I can't bring myself to spend the money on it with the experience I've had with this set.

It is oven safe too up to a certain temperature (I guess 350deg).

The only drawback is being a non-stick pan, it requires special care so as not to scratch the surface with metal spatulas. Use wooden spatulas and you will never have any troubles with this.

I love this saucepan! I have been slowly replacing old pans with Calphalon, which I love too, but I didn't want to pay $30 or more for just a saucepan; this one is wonderful and I loved the price! I read the reviews first and couldn't be happier, easy to clean, feels good in the hand, love the glass lid...I was concerned about the handle, since I often have dermatis on my hand, didn't want something that hurt, cutting into my dry skin, but not this handle, really quite comfortable to hold.

I like it so much, I am thinking of getting another one, just to have on hand.

"Nonstick coating scratched on 1st use" 2009-03-27
By GW in Arizona (AZ)
I was very pleased when this set and pan arrived as looks nice in appearance. A little lighter than other annodized cookware but was sturdy for the price. I was surprised when I used the pan for the first time to warm up some soup using nonscratch utensils made for nonstick cookware and the pan still scratched!!! I read some other reviews in which folks had trouble with the nonstick. I suppose it is like a new car - some just get made on a bad day or are defective from the start. I have not used it since as afraid to ruin it but just sitting on the stove looking pretty doesn't do me much good either! Now, I wish I had just gone with the stainless steel instead of the nonstick as afraid all my pans will do that. Other than the nonstick coating, I do like this pan and set. Clean up was a breeze and cooks evenly etc.. I am just afraid that the set will not last and I'll be looking at having to replace these after minimal use. Seems like right now too the department stores have great deals on cookware that are comparable or better quality for even lower price. If you are familiar with "Silverstone" cookware or "Wearever" brand, these nonstick cuisinarts are just slightly heavier/thicker. This line of cuisinart pans are $10-$15 dollar quality pans and good if you are able to find them for that price. The Chefs Classic Nonstick line is not the same quality of for example calphalon or even the simply calphalon brands. I am rather surprised that they carry the cuisinart name but imagine they developed a lower quality low cost pan to attract customers.

"Great pans for the money..." 2010-02-03
By P. Szafranski (NYC, NY United States)
I purchased these 2 pans over a year ago. I have taken care to use the proper cooking utensils and always have washed them by hand, never put them in the dishwasher and they look brand new. So for the money and if you are a single person, these 2 sizes are just great. Tip, get the lids too! I purchased them afterwards but wished I had got them sooner.  "Great skillet - very pleased but not perfect" 2010-02-11
By Brian (Columbus, OH USA)
This non-stick skillet makes it easy to get between the food and the surface. I've noticed that these Cuisinart products typically work well for a long period of time, but they lose that nearly perfect non-stick factor pretty quickly. Essentially, on a scale of 1-10, if the non-stick factor were a 10 when you buy it, it becomes a 7 to 7.5 on a non-stick factor scale within 4 to 5 uses, but it retains that mild level of non-stick factor for a minimum of 8 months to 2 years of regular use (2-3 times per week). From time to time, I use extra virgin olive oil or butter to aid it from not having food stick to the surfaces when I am cooking something that I am especially don't want sticking to the skillet.

I have had this particular skillet for 6 months, and it still looks great and provides of enough non-stick to cook everything that I want. Although it probably doesn't matter to most, I find it nice that this skillet doesn't show signs of being used after 6 months. I realize that its purpose is for cooking and not a show piece, but there's something more inviting about using a piece of cookware that still looks new (or relatively new). Because of how good it still looks, I don't even consider replacing it (in addition to the fact that its non-stick qualities are still good enough).

The handles are very sturdy which is nice. My previous skillet (non-Cuisinart) had a flimsy handle, and the handle broke within a couple months. It's nice to have the second handle on the opposite side of the skillet from the main handle. This can be very handy if needed, but I don't use it often.

This skillet is relatively easy to clean, but be sure not to use any plastic or metal scrapers on it. Always use a sponge or a sponge brush.

Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase. It's not a perfect skillet, but it's the closest thing that I have found to it. If all you want is perfect non-stick from a pan all of the time, the best bet is to buy a cheap brand's non-stick skillet and replace every 10-15 uses, but that's pretty wasteful and will cost you much more over time. If you want a great non-stick skillet which will last you a long time and be a great bang for your buck, this is probably it.

Usually larger than what's needed for when it's used but still a great all purpose skillet which is why it gets used.

 "Unacceptable nonstick coating" 2009-09-28
By Disgusted (VA)
I bought this product around 10 months ago. I assumed it has an Excalibur coating as had previous Cuisinart nonsticks. It doesn't. It has a coating very much like a traditional Teflon I coating. Its very non-stick. Because of this, I was very careful not to overheat it, or to clean it in the dishwasher or to use metal utensils with it. Unfortunately, the nonstick coating started coming off in flakes about two weeks ago. I sent an e-mail to Cuisinart customer support which they ignored. I called them and they told me to ship it at my own expense, and if they deemed it defective, they'd ship me a new one at my expense. This meant that I would have to pay approximately $20-$25 to remedy a product that was designed or produced in a clearly defective way. My experience confirms the Consumer Reports' rating which says that Cuisinart frying pans nonstick coating are given the lowest possible score for reliability. If you are considering buying this pan, and you read the reviews of others who love it, if I had sent in a review anytime in the first eight months, it would have also been a glowing one. This is pretty much true of all nonsticks. They're great until the coating dies and most of these reviews were written too soon for their authors to have had that experience. I suggest that you try and find a relatively cheap pan with an Excalibur coating. It will wear out too, but it will take around two years, and not cost as much.
